From CEE power distributors to practical wall distributors - what you should consider when buying one

What is a power distributor and what should be considered before buying one?

A power distributor, also known as a building site power distributor or CEE power distributor, ensures a safe and reliable power supply at various locations.

Power distributors are usually found on construction sites, in workshops and garagesStromverteiler or on campsites and event sites. However, power distributors are also frequently found in industry, agriculture or in the trades in general.
In short: wherever electricity from the household socket is no lon

ger sufficient and a powerful power supply, i.e. high voltage current, is required.

As a rule, a power distributor consists of a sturdy and splash-proof housing made of high-quality plastic or rubber (protection class IP44), so that nothing stands in the way of its use on construction sites or in outdoor areas in general. In addition, construction site power distributors usually have a large number of sockets, usually a combination of CEE and earthed sockets.
Cable quality also plays an extremely important role:

Important: Power distributors should be equipped with a cable that is permanently suitable for outdoor use.
Distributors from brennenstuhl® are all equipped with an RN cable (rubber-neoprene) so that nothing stands in the way of permanent outdoor use.

What types of power distributors are there?

Not all power distributors are the same!

A distinction is made between portable and stationary construction site power distributors.
However, brennenstuhl® offers a variety of different power distributors that fulfil every requirement:

Portable, mobile power distributors

Thanks to their robust tubular steel frame, our mobile power distributors can be used in a stable position on construction sites.

Stackable power distributors

The mobile power distributors can be perfectly stacked on top of each other, making them extremely space-saving to use and store.

The 400V / 16A or 400V / 32A power distributors are also available with type A or type B RCDs.

Thanks to the splash-proof housing (protection class IP44), the socket distributors are suitable for permanent outdoor use. The construction site power distributors also have a metal hook or carrying handle - perfect for flexible installation of the power distributors. Stackable CEE power distributors - a space-saving power source on construction sites. Further features of our power distributors can be found in compact form in the video. See for yourself.

Wall-mounted distributors

Pendant power distributors provide the perfect power source in workshops or garages. The pendant power distributors enable variable power at any working height and also work without cable clutter at the workplace.

Rubber power distributor

The power distributor with a housing made of a special rubber compound. This makes the power distributor unbreakable, impact-resistant and resistant to ageing and weathering. The special housing is also resistant to various oils, greases, petrol and acids. This construction site power distributor is ideal for construction sites and professional use.

Outdoor power distributor

Outdoor power distributors, also known as ground spike sockets or outdoor sockets, are ideal for flexible outdoor use. The ground spike is securely and stably anchored in the ground and safely supplies connected devices, such as your outdoor lighting, with power.

Practical accessories for wall-mounted distributorsGestell Wandverteiler

Maximum flexibility and the option of setting up stationary power distributors anywhere is made possible by the practical frame for wall distributors. The galvanised sheet steel frame makes wall-mounted distributors mobile and securely stable with rubber edge protection. This easily transforms a classic wall-mounted distributor into a mobile site power distributor!

CEE power distributor with heavy current: 16A, 32A or 63A?

Decide on the right power distributor

Regardless of whether you opt for a power distributor with 16A, 32A or 63A, the power distributor ‘only’ differs in terms of the red CEE 400V sockets and their amperage.

However, you should always ask yourself the question before buying:
For which application do I need a CEE power distributor?
This is because the intended use should be used to estimate the load that the CEE power distributor will have to bear and how many devices need to be connected.

Features of different amperages: 16A power distributors vs. 32A and 63A power distributors

Compared to 16A distributors, 32A power distributors have a larger socket and cables with a larger cable cross-section.
The sockets have a higher overall load capacity and are usually equipped with more fuses. Usually, 32A power distributors with RCD type B are used on construction sites and are rather unusual for private use, which is the case for 16A distributors.

The 32A sockets have a higher overall load capacity (approx. 22 kW compared to approx. 11kW).

The difference between the 63A power distributors and the 32A variants is that these power distributors can handle higher loads overall. They are equipped with a 63A CEE plug and a more powerful cable. This means that more current can be drawn through these power distributors.

If the power distributors are also to be used on the construction site, they must also be equipped with a type B RCD.

You can also discover the differences between the CEE plugs in detail here.

Power distributor with RCD - effective protection against possible electric shocks

Protection that pays off: CEE power distributor with RCD circuit breaker

Most people talk about residual current circuit breakers or RCDs, but what does the abbreviation ‘RCD’ actually mean?
‘F’ stands for the word fault and “I” for the formula symbol for the electrical current.

The residual current circuit breaker ensures that the circuit is interrupted immediately in the event of a possible residual current if people come into contact with a faulty appliance or cable.

The brennenstuhl® power distribution boards with RCDs are equipped with type A or type B RCDs. The type B RCD is particularly recommended for construction site work.

Advantages of RCDs

Type A

  • Effective protection against dangerous electric shock
  • Compact design
  • All-pole disconnection occurs in a matter of seconds even at very low currents

Type B

  • Protects against almost smooth DC residual currents
  • Comprehensive personal and system protection therefore only guaranteed with type B
  • RCD type B complies with the new DIN VDE 0100-704 standard
  • Approved for the construction site

Power distributors for the construction site - what you should consider

Using mobile power safely on the construction site

Construction sites as far as the eye can see - but working on construction sites with electrical devices is only possible with the appropriate power supply.
The devices to be connected are dependent on mobile power, as there is often a lack of access to the power grid on construction sites and in places that have not yet been developed. Particularly on construction sites, where things are not exactly squeamish, all the more care and caution should be taken to ensure the right power supply.

However, this awareness is not only required on construction sites, but also for private DIY work, where the ‘normal’ electricity from the household socket is no longer sufficient.

What does the perfect power distributor for the construction site look like and what features should it have?

Power distributors for the construction site have to withstand a lot - so it is all the more important to pay attention to certain features.

You should pay attention to the following Kompakter Stromverteiler für die Baustelle

  • Oil-resistant RN cable
    For permanent outdoor use
  • RCD protection
    for your own safety
  • Sufficient sockets
    16A protective contact sockets, resilient 16A & 32A sockets
  • IP44
Foreign body and splash water protection

Power distributors from brennenstuhl® ensure the perfect and, above all, safe power supply on construction sites!
