Flashlight or headlight?
There is one thing they both have in common – they provide us with a helpful and simultaneously wireless light source for many possible applications. Discover the characteristics and features of both light sources and make the correct decision before your purchase.
How does an LED headlight differ from a flashlight and what is it used for?
A headlight provides for a clear view and simultaneously free hands. Compact LED headlights distinguish themselves by their low weight – so wearing a lamp on your head remains completely unnoticed.
For this reason, headlights are perfectly suited for diverse outdoor activities, e.g. jogging, fishing or climbing, as here, free hands are indispensable. Apart from the sports activities, the headlight is, however, also the perfect companion for workers on construction sites, workshops or also in mining – i.e. in all places where free hands are necessary for the work and where there is little to no light at all.
Headlights for running and jogging
The summer draws to a close – the autumn and winter months are just around the corner. Training sessions will necessarily take place in the dark - equipped with the perfect LED headlight, this will, however, no longer be a problem!
If you use a headlight while you are jogging, you will not only recognise obstacles and possible tripping hazards, you are also perceived much earlier yourself, be it by car drivers or other outdoor enthusiasts.
Headlights – A clear recommendation for runners.
How do you recognise a good headlight for jogging?
Luminous range and brightness The luminous range should at least be 15 metres, so that the following is true: See and be seen. The brightness, i.e. the light intensity, should at least be 100 Lumen.
Weight The lighter the better – choose a lightweight headlamp the wearing of which on the head remains completely unnoticed. Lightweight headlamps are particularly advantageous for outdoor activities
Inclination The flexibly adjustable inclination serves the adjustment of the light angle
Headband The band should in any case rest comfortably at the head and ideally be adjustable. In case of extreme movements, a headlamp with two bands is recommended (one at the head and one around the head)
Switch with functions The brightness of a headlamp can be controlled in different levels. In addition, a reliable headlamp has an SOS function or also a red flashing light at the back part of the headlamp so that the runner is also recognised in the dark
Water-tight Whoever is often on the go outdoors also risks standing there in the rain. For this reason, you should make sure that you have a water-tight headlamp at hand. Here, the IP protection type is decisive. Choose at least IP44 protection, standing for solid body- and splash water-resistance.
